Located within the Pittsburgh Metro area, Washington PA is just 30 miles southwest of downtown.  Not only is Washington a city but it is the county seat within Washington County.  Named after George Washington, Washington PA was established in 1768.  Washington was incorporated into a borough in 1810. 

Just the same as it is today, the founding and discovery of oil and natural gas caused the area to boom between the 1800s and 1900s.
